Splitting Chores

Contribution by Stevie Kirby

My husband and I just moved into a new home, and it was definitely a challenge to get everything done. Moving is so much work that we just had to go ahead and split up tasks and trust each other to get things right. I took the lead on decorating, while he organized things. He is way more organized than I am, and I am much more stylish than he is, so it worked out. One thing my husband and I could not agree on when was whether to get satellite TV or cable. For some reason my husband didn’t think that we would have the same channels if we got satellite instead of cable. I showed him SatelliteTVFamily.com and then he realized how wrong he was. I really don’t get why he argued with me in the first place. He is such a workaholic that he rarely ever watches TV. I am the one who is home more and gets sucked into shows. I guess I’m lucky that he spends so much time on the computer so I don’t have to argue with him about what we watch.

Saving Money

How to save Money: In this article you will learn how save money when you shop anywhere.

1) Shop around

2) Use Discount coupons

3) Read reviews and ratings before you buy.

1) Before you buy any product shop around to find the cheapest price. Have a look iin shops and online

2) The cheapest price without a discount coupon does not mean the cheapest price with a discount coupon. Don’t buy the product unless you can afford it. This is a mistake many people make. By taking on finance you can more then double the cost of a product. Where you could save up and buy a better one.

3) Read reviews and ask friends about what they think of the product. Ask in instore, they are there to help.

If possible use a credit card with cashback, but only if you can afford it in the first place.

Extra Tips: Savings Products

Before opening a savings account, find out whether the account is insured by the federal government (FDIC for banks or NCUA for credit unions). Financial institutions offer a number of products, such as mutual funds and annuities, which are not insured.
Once you select a type of savings account, use the telephone, newspaper, and Internet to compare rates and fees offered by different financial institutions-including those outside your city. These rates can vary a lot and, over time, can significantly affect interest earnings.
To earn the highest return on savings (annual percentage yield) with little or no risk, consider certificates of deposit (CDs) or U.S. Savings Bonds (Series I or EE).

Credit Cards

To avoid late payment fees and possible interest rate increases on your credit cards, make sure you send in your payment a week to ten days before the statement due date. Late payments on one card can increase fees and interest rates on other cards.

You can avoid interest charges, which may be considerable, by paying off your entire bill each month. If you are unable to pay off a large balance, pay as much as you can. Try to shift the remaining balance to a credit card with a lower annual percentage rate (APR). You can find listings of credit card plans, rates, and terms on the Internet, in personal finance magazines, and in newspapers.

Be aware that credit cards with rebates, cash back, travel awards, or other perks may carry higher rates or fees.

Checking Accounts and Debit Cards

You can save more than $100 a year in fees by selecting a free checking account or one with no minimum balance requirement. Request a complete list of fees that are charged on these accounts, including ATM and debit card fees.

See if you can get free or lower cost checking through direct deposit or agreeing to ATM only use. Be aware of charges for using an ATM not associated with your financial institution.

Auto Insurance

You can save several hundred dollars a year by purchasing auto insurance from a licensed, low-price insurer. Call your state insurance department for a publication showing typical prices charged by different companies. Then call at least four of the lowest-priced, licensed insurers to learn what they would charge you for the same coverage.

Talk to your agent or insurer about raising your deductibles on collision and comprehensive coverage to at least $500 or, if you have an old car, dropping this coverage altogether. This can save you hundreds of dollars on insurance premiums.

Make certain that your new policy is in effect before dropping your old one.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Mom and Dad

Guest post of the week by Brittany Booker

Mom and dad are getting older and I feel like it’s my responsibility to teach them about internet technology that can help make their life easier. They’ve been great parents and I know it’s hard for them to imagine a day when I’m helping them instead of the other way around but to be honest, that day has come. Anyway, I got them internet for their house since they live way out there and I helped show them how to work their new cell phones as well as their security system. I feel like they finally know what they need to live in the 21st century but it’s been an uphill battle for me trying to teach them what to do with their life! They’re such great people but they really have a hard time with anything that has buttons so I’m surprised this has come to them so easily. I love them to death but I know I’m going to be getting phone calls for months asking how to work everything in the house!

Teachers Love Summer

Guest post by Gerard Mcdaniel

Summer time! I’m a teacher and as you’ve probably heard, WE GET SUMMERS OFF! It’s my favorite thing about this profession as I usually do something cool in the summer like take a job at a summer camp or do some type of tutoring. This year I decided to go way outside my comfort zone and hit the road on a two month travelling odyssey! I’m going to Asia first to hit up Japan and China then I’ve got a one-way ticket to Brazil where I’ll go from there. I have to make sure the house is in good shape before I leave, though, and I’ve reached out to some gardeners and looked into a security system at securitychoice.com.
Want to make sure nothing happens to the place while I’m gone! My friend Shana is going to come with me and I just think it’s going to be the trip of a lifetime. How could it not be? It better be good since I’m spending most of my savings to make it happen!

Bon voyage, me
